Rape and sexual abuse can destroy a woman's sense of safety in the world (Jan Jordan, 2008).  However, at Trafford Rape Crisis we believe that women are "messed over, not messed up" (as Carol Hanisch once said) and so we aim to offer support that allows women space to find their way back to some form of safety.

We aim to provide free and confidential support.  Our telephone support line is 0800 783 4608.  Do leave us a message at any time and if you can leave your phone number, we will call you back.

If you are a Black or Asian women and would prefer to speak to another Black or Asian woman then please leave a message at 07983 496 776 to receive a call.

History
Our steering group was set up in January of 2010 to open a new Rape Crisis service for the women of Trafford, Greater Manchester.  We are a women only group and we aim to provide support for women in Trafford who have experienced rape, sexual abuse or any other form of unwanted sex, no matter when or where.

Aims

Trafford Rape Crisis (TRC) is a feminist organisation run by women for women, which aims to:

  • Support women survivors of rape or sexual abuse so they may maintain control over their lives.
  • Raise awareness about rape and sexual abuse committed against women and girls, regardless of their background or circumstances.
  • Provide information, guidance, training, and expertise within the community.
  • Enhance the involvement of all women in the development of TRC policies and services.
  • Contribute to policy initiatives and strategies aimed at improving the service provision for women survivors.
  • Actively challenge the values, beliefs and behaviours which contribute to women’s oppression.
  • Work in partnership with local service providers and communities to promote the values of TRC
